Jan Vogler Mesa Concert reviews
Good Overall, But Some Questionable Decisions
This is pretty much a two hour recap of the movies, aimed at kids and fans of things like Trans-Siberian Orchestra. On one hand, it was a bit heavy on effects which seemed kind of disjointed and distracting, and on the other hand, a bit light on music.
Much of the concert had clips from the movies projected on a large screen behind the orchestra. Lucas's turgid romantic dialogue from Eps. II and III often accompanied these distracting visuals. Additionally, some of Williams' more interesting pieces were either bizarrely edited (e.g. Binary Sunset) or completely left out (e.g. The Battle in the Snow), which was disappointing.
In conclusion, I think this is a great concert if you are a kid or a general SW fan who doesn't prioritize the music. However, if you're like me and prefer concerts that focus on the scores, you might leave somewhat disappointed. Although, hearing the Imp March live may make the admission price worth it.
